The New Lexicon offers performers a sustained framework for deepening the artistic and intellectual dimensions of their practices. Over several months, participants move beyond a single masterclass, developing questions through presentation, response, rehearsal, revision, and public articulation.
The programme provides an opportunity to clarify concepts and commitments implicit in performative decisions; advance performances, texts, and artistic-research projects through feedback; develop more precise languages for presenting and contextualizing work; test artistic and theoretical propositions within an international research community; and encounter methodologies, aesthetic positions, repertoires, and concepts beyond their usual fields.
Participants can situate their practices within wider historical, philosophical, technological, institutional, and political debates. This contextualization does not displace performance’s specificity. It enables performers to understand more clearly how their practices participate in, resist, or transform the conditions around them.
The residency may generate new interpretive directions, research questions, performance formats, and intellectual relationships. It creates a basis for future collaborations, publications, lectures, performances, and research projects beyond the residency’s formal duration. It supports work that can circulate across performance, academic, curatorial, and public contexts without requiring those contexts to become identical. The value of the programme lies not in delivering a single model of excellence, but in equipping participants to formulate stronger questions, make more deliberate decisions, and communicate the significance of their practices with greater precision.
